 Terry's Blooms & Verses

[All photos taken at my home unless otherwise cited]

Rose

In your wilderness;
in that solitary place

a place we all
find ourselves
at some point in life

make the effort
to fill that empty vase
and
find there
in your sadness

such gladness

in the rose...

All through the wild meadows
rose petals
set the hills to dancing...

Psalm 65:12

_____________

Daisy

If I had my life to live over again,
I'd pick more daisies.

~ Jimmy Stewart, legendary actor
_____________

Pansy

No one can keep on being angry
who looks into the heart of a pansy
even for a little while.

~ Lady Maud Montgomery

Pray, my love, remember:
and then God
gave us pansies,
now there's for thoughts.

~ William Shakespeare

Redbud

With incoming sounds of spring,
a resurrection of life,
the earth's chilliness flees,
and the redbud ignites...

_______________

Herbs

My herb box
Consider the herbs --
small, unobserved, yet
they thrive
and present themselves
for our plucking
at dinnertime.

yes,
that's it,
pluck and rub between
thumb and finger
and inhale
ah-h-h
delight in your
oregano,
rosemary,
mint
and thyme.

such wonders they contain
the power to transform
our mundane meals --
yes,
consider the herbs
so subtly sublime.

_______________

Bluebonnets

Above, One of my brave bluebonnets
bursting through a rock bed.

Below, nearby to me is Lake Granger's Wilson Fox Park
and the bluebonnets there this year are magnificent.
In 1969 I was 6 years old and Lady Bird Johnson started handing out the Texas Highway Beautification Awards and writing personal checks to the winners. Soon everybody was planting bluebonnets, Indian paintbrushes, and black-eyed Susans in the hopes of winning her approval.

Driving out to see the wildflowers bloom was something everybody,
including my own family, began doing in the spring.

As for the trash that had gotten so bad along Texas highways in the 50s and 60s? Lady Bird thought that people just wouldn't have the nerve to throw garbage on a field of bluebonnets, our state flower.
Turns out, she was right.
Thank you Lady Bird!

I mowed out at our family cemetery recently
and behind our own is
the Old Friendship cemetery.
It has quite a few bluebonnets in it
like these visible through the chain link fence.
I thought it cool that our Texas motto,
"Friendship,"
fronted the state flower.

______________
Narcissus

If one finds oneself with bread in both hands,
that person should exchange one loaf
for some flowers of the narcissus
because the loaf feeds the body,
but the narcissus feeds the soul.

____________
Trumpet Vine

Eleven orange trumpets
silently pour their
radiant peace
in all directions
not violently to bring
down walls
but gently as their
green leaved vines
victoriously over climb
~  Saiom Shriver

_______________

Succulents

We were warm in the sunlight
Our love running thick
as succulent leaves
gently unfolding
when the day did fade...

My Red Yucca -
has sprung more shoots this Spring
than ever before!
