  • A 58-year-old man, with lung cancer, was admitted to the University of Mississippi hospital and would become the first recipient of a lung transplant

  • Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) volunteers kicked off the Birmingham campaign in Birmingham, Alabama, against racial segregation in the United States, with a sit-in
  • 9 days later on April 12 the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.Ralph AbernathyFred Shuttlesworth and others were arrested in Birmingham, Alabama, for "parading without a permit".

Andrew Oldham
 sees the The Rolling Stones
in concert at the
Crawdaddy Club in London.
3 weeks later they sign a contract
for him to be their Manager.
Because Oldham was only 19
- younger than anyone in the band—
he could not obtain an
agent's licence or
sign any contracts
without his mother co-signing.
She reluctantly agreed to do so.
