Estate Sale...and Tornado!

 SPRING  2022

while parked in front of my house in March!

Yes, I was at home -- cowering on the floor with Arne!

The tornado's winds got into my attic
and the 60 y.o. rafters of this building I remodeled as my home in 2011 sounded like they were going to lift right off this structure as the sound of a turbine engine roared above me -- and then came the eerie escalating rattle of my metal AC duct door - which unscrewed and dropped to the floor in the middle of it all!

God Almighty I was scared!

But I think it is a testament to the carpentry skills of my Dad and Grandfather who built this building in 1961 that not a bit of damage was encurred!

What a site when I slowly opened the door of my home!  Unlike Dorothy in the aftermath of her ordeal who found the beauty of a technicolor Oz), I instead gazed upon the debris of twisted sheet metal, limbs, and trash littered all over the property.  It was shocking!

But even more heartbreaking was the slow trickle of arriving reports - catastrophic damage to homes all around me.  My thoughts and prayers have been with my neighbors who suffered so much damage from this monster.

Irises in Dad's orchard
Despite the wreckage it left behind here at our place
at the beginning of that week,
I got it all cleaned up in time
and
the

...irises, peach blossoms, and pear blossoms were
all out in full bloom in time for our

2-day Estate Sale

My gatehouse would serve as the hospitality center for my wonderful volunteers who helped me stage this event at my parent's place and I want to thank
- Bill at HEB for the great job with my sandwich trays.

A huge thank you to the following who helped make my Sale a success -

Arne thought I deserved a kiss for finally getting the sign up!
- my wonderful Aunts: Sandy, Debbie, Sharon, Rose and especially my angel Aunt Angie;

- Uncle Albin and his good buddy Bill you guys rocked! - thank you Uncle Albin for negotiating the sales in the pasture and Bill those boxes were a godsend!;

- Kathryn thank you for coming out both days after having just wrapped up your own sale the weekend before!;

- my renter Jennifer for doing a great job at the jewelry table on Saturday and Bruce for manning it on Friday;

- Joe for manning the Cashier table both days and partner Michael for lending a hand on Saturday.

- Aunt Barb & Uncle Marvin for your many tables!;

- my best friends Chad and Dwight for pitching in on Saturday;

- cousin Kendra, Carolyn at Taylor Daily Press, Michael Craig at Rockdale radio, Cameron radio, and Georgetown Sign Company for help with my advertising needs;

And, of course, I really appreciate each and every one of the over 150 people who came to the Sale.

I was so excited to see my former colleague at AISD Celeste and her husband Gary stop in, traveling all the way from far south Austin!

Todd and Natalie Corporon: how truly happy it makes me that those magnificent pieces of the Machu Family's
antique farm equipment are "staying local" and "in good Czech Brethren hands!"

I want to especially thank Franklin and Judy Hajda and their daughter Emily.  It was such a joy to see you guys again.  Mom and Dad always spoke so highly of your family and it meant so much to me to have you participate in this event.

As much of the sale revolved in and around my folk's garage, I spruced up the front with pots of beautiful sweet broom I found at Home Depot (couldn't resist sticking a Czech flag in one of them)

and I even included a pot on my front porch.

After his great help at the end,
Chad and I collapsed into the front patio chairs and had chilled sparkling cider.  As dusk arrived, he took the great pic at right of the wind chime medallion.

I love this pic!

If it's Spring,

it's also Easter season

so naturally
I got my bunnies out for decor -

- although, we've got plenty of the real thing as well.

Recent estimates are that our warren of wild bunnies now numbers close to 20 or more that roam all over, particularly beginning at dusk.

Here are more images of Spring at our place:

My redbud tree always makes a bright splash of color against the blue sky.  And the honeybees are all for it!

My neighbor Aaron Walton was working at the nursery at HEB across from IKEA last spring and talked me into getting 4 pots of this trumpet vine.  I'm so glad I did, it's crawling on my stone house and its blooms are fantastic!
