Abstract of Title

The Abstract of Title for the Loessin property in Circleville (images below) is in poor condition.  It is an artifact that I cherish and am trying my best to preserve.  It is important to remember that my Loessin family's property on the San Gabriel river was devastated by two great floods in 1957 and 1959.  In those floods much was lost - including many old family photos dating to the mid-1800s.  These included a box full of great daguerrotype images, as well as the wedding photos of my great grandparents and grandparents.

[See Terrys Novel for more info on the floods, their impact on our Cotton Gin business, and the impetus this provided state leaders to begin plans for two future dams that would create Lake Georgetown and Granger Lake.]

1848, Absalom Jett is provided 14 Labors of Land
that were part of the William Ashworth survey of 1840.
A labor (pronounced lah-bór) was a
Spanish land unit measuring
177 acres.
Also noteworthy on this page,
at this time there was no Williamson County,
this part of Texas then was known as
the Milam District.

H. T. Stearns and his wife deed the land
over to their son A. C. Stearns

My great-grandfather goes to work in
A.C. Stearns' cotton gin and
seeks to buy the gin and property.
Included in this document are the records of a
Condemnation Suit and Injunction Suit
between Stearns and
my grandfather Oscar and his brother Walter.
