2023 VACATION
in OREGON

Featuring:

the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway, Multnomah Falls, Crown Point's Vista House, Silver Falls, Devil's Punch Bowl, Bridge of the Gods, Bridal Veil, Corvallis, Manzanita, Pittock Mansion, Lan Su Chinese Garden, Tillamook Creamery and much more...

Fleeing the horrid drought and three-digit temps of Texas, Chad and I headed to the lush green trails and refreshing waterfalls in Oregon.

Portland was home base from which we ventured out each day for our adventures and many thanks to our lovely host there, Christie.

JANUARY 2021
I had Georgetown Fence Company install a new fence around my Gatehouse for Arne's arrival!
Arne likes waiting at the new fence gate for my return from a day's work out in the yard.

FEBRUARY 2021
The Great Ice Storm of '21 will go down in history.
The state's power grid failed,
We had no water,
I had a pipe burst at my gatehouse.
Mom and Dad ran out of propane at their house.
I had to dress them for temps in the teens,
drive them through ice and snow over a foot deep to Aunt Angie's to spend a night.
It was dreadful.
But, as all my pics of the winter wonderland reveal, so deceptively beautiful.

APRIL 2021
For my birthday my friend Chad made me a cake.
So sweet, haven't had a birthday cake on my birthday in many years!

Some old pics of Chad and I:

AUGUST 2021

Made more homemade ice cream in August and had Chad and the Aunts over for Croquet in my back yard.  Left, Aunt Angie prepares to swing at her ball.

Arne loves running through water puddles after a rain!

Signs of Spring Around the Homestead
Not only was this pear tree in my parent's orchard full of bees bouncing from one blossom to the next...
can you see the beautiful butterfly?

MY NEW ROCK GARDEN PATH AROUND SHED
and NEW GARDEN BENCH DEDICATED TO GRAM, ALF, and SUZY

"In Loving Memory of Alfred & Elizabeth (Loessin) Vitek & Suzy."
Prior to my brother selling our grandparents farm recently I asked him if I could have the ol bench on the porch.
It is a visual I carry in my mind that comforts me even to this day - -
pulling away from Gram and Alf's farm and waving at them through the backseat glass
as they (and their little dog Suz) sat on this bench waving back at me.
I repainted it and got this plaque and it's now the centerpiece in my new garden path.

"Oh my gosh, JJ, look at our crazy big beans!"
View from my rock garden bench.

JULY 2013
About a dozen guests, family and friends, came over for my July 4th Patio Party.
I served homemade ice cream (see my dish of patriotic toppings below)
and we watched the fireworks

My new Entertainment Center that I designed myself and a local contractor built for me.

BEET - niks!
Here is my Aunt Angie and I at my Uncle and Aunt's farm holding up our proud accomplishments.
We canned 35 pints and 10 quarts of beets on this morning (that included the cutting of the tops,
scrubbing, boiling, dicing, spicing up the jars, and filling).
The weekend before we canned 56 pints! M-m-m-m!

The 30 ft. brown anondized flagpole crowned with a golden orb
